ROS, Navigation & SLAM — hands-on with TortoiseBot and AMRs

Overview

ROS, Navigation & SLAM — hands-on with TortoiseBot and AMRs
Batch 47
Total sessions:
 21
Session duration: 45 minutes each
Schedule: 2–3 sessions week/weekend
Course span: 45 days (~7 weeks)

You build working robots across eight hands-on sections, each ending with something tangible you can show.

What you will learn and build:

  • ROS2 from scratch: workspaces, nodes, topics, and launch files
  • Communication and control: topics, services, and actions, culminating in a closed-loop controller that drives a simulated robot to a target on its own
  • Robot modeling and simulation: build your own differential-drive robot in URDF, add LiDAR, IMU, and camera sensors in Ignition Gazebo, and design a custom world to test it in
  • Kinematics and sensor fusion: learn how robots track their position through odometry, and correct drift by fusing multiple sensors with an Extended Kalman Filter
  • Real hardware: drive a physical robot and stream live sensor data to your screen
  • SLAM: your robot maps a space it has never seen
  • Nav2: your robot navigates autonomously to any goal, avoiding obstacles in real time, with a fully tuned navigation stack
  • AI perception and LLM control: build OpenCV and deep-learning perception nodes so the robot knows where objects are in 3D space, then wire up an LLM so the robot follows plain-English commands. Say "go to the kitchen" and it navigates there. Say "find the red object" and it does.

Capstone projects:

  • Autonomous patrol and replenishment robot
  • Vision-guided follow-me and object-seeking robot
  • Language-commanded navigation
  • Multi-robot coordination

Who is this for?

Whether you are an engineering student, a working professional, or a builder ready to move past tutorials, this course takes you from zero ROS2 experience to deploying intelligent mobile robots that map, navigate, see, and listen. Basic Python or C++ knowledge is all you need to start.

Seats are limited. Join Batch 47.
